The beers at 508 gatstrobrewery

The 508 gastro brewery bar and restaurant was a pretty special place for any beer lover as the draught beer was actually brewed on site, in 50 gallon batches. Chris Cuzme was the brewer at the 508 gastrobrewery. He joined the business in 2012 but he’d been brewing beer since 2001, so he certainly had a lot of experience by the time he arrived at the 508. He started out, like many brewers, with home brewing. He joined many local home brew clubs and, spurred on by the home brew community, he joined forces with two other home brew enthusiasts, Chris Post and Alex Hall, to open the Wandering Star Craft Brewery in Pittsfield, MA. This was a venture that was to last for seven years.

The beers on tap at 508 gastrobrewery

All the beers on tap were brewed right on the premises. You don’t get fresher than that! The beer menu changed pretty regularly, there was always something new to try, but here we’ll take a look at some of the best on tap beers on that menu that were always popular at the 508…

Midnight in Bruges

Midnight in Bruges was a personal favorite of mine. It was 5.3% ABV and was a black Belgian style ale.

Beer on the Dubbel

Then there was Beer on the Dubbel, classed as a ‘simple’ Belgian Dubbel, this was a very popular choice and 7.1% ABV.

This is How You Do It

This is How You Do It came in a little stronger at 8.5%, it was certainly one to sip! Brewed with the input of John Naegele of the NYC Homebrewers Guild, this rye double India Pale Ale was a real treat to savour.

Blue Brown

This brown ale was made using East Kent Golding, Chinook and Challenger hops and was 5.5% ABV.

The Hop Whisperer

The Hop Whisperer was a collaboration between 508 brewery, Iberian Beer United and Stillwater Artisanal Ales. Dregs of Spanish Sidra was used in the brewing of this unique beer. It was a strong beer at 7.6% ABV.

Navidad Voyage

Another top beer in my mind, Navidad Voyage was a 6.5% ABV beer. It was a salted guava ale with allspice, so you can imagine it had a truly complex flavor! It was brewed in conjunction with award winning brewer Frank Lockwood.
